Authorities from all three levels of government have deployed a major operation to rescue four miners trapped after the collapse of a tailings dam at the Santa Fe mine, operated by Industrial Minera Sinaloa, S.A. de C.V., located in El Rosario, Sinaloa. The company Industrial Minera Sinaloa S.A. de C.V. confirmed that four workers are trapped. The incident occurred last Monday, March 25, around 3:00 PM, according to a publication by Noroeste. The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) has joined the efforts in the 'ground zero' area through an ECO Mission. Its main objective is to coordinate the actions of the command post and provide constant accompaniment to the families of the affected workers. In turn, the Armed Forces have intensified their presence at the site. Initially, over 60 personnel from the Army, National Guard, and municipal security forces established a security perimeter and supported with logistics to protect rescuers and workers. This Friday, March 27, the effort was reinforced by the arrival of 38 elements from the Mexican Army specializing in search and rescue of collapsed structures, who arrived at Mazatlán International Airport aboard a Mexican Air Force C27J Spartan aircraft. With this reinforcement, the military force totals 98 elements, working in coordination with Civil Protection (state and municipal), the State Attorney General's Office, and Municipal Public Safety. Additionally, it is expected that specialized elements from the Secretariat of the Navy will join the rescue operations. The Emergency Attention Battalion has mobilized specialized equipment that includes four K-9 units, self-contained breathing apparatus, cutting tools, power generators, and first aid kits. Authorities have reaffirmed that their top priority is to rescue the four miners alive and guarantee the safety of all personnel involved.
